Wintergreen, Treat the Troops and Local Middle School Team Up to Send Care Packages to the Troops

Alpharetta, Ga, May 5, 2017 -- Wintergreen Corp. opened up its 100,000-square-foot headquarters and distribution facility today to students from Piney Grove Middle School in Cumming, Ga., to assemble care packages for troops stationed overseas. The event was held in conjunction with the Georgia chapter of Treat the Troops.

Treat the Troops is a non-profit corporation dedicated to letting deployed American military personnel know that people at home remember them. Since 1990, Treat the Troops has sent more than 5.3 million cookies to U.S. soldiers stationed abroad since 1990.

"I think it's amazing that Wintergreen does this," said Linda Jones of Treat the Troops Southern Style (Georgia chapter). "They not only donate the space for the kids to pack, but they are so helpful and welcoming. Besides the space, they take all of the boxes to the post office and pay for the postage to send them to the troops. That's a big help."

The Piney Grove students were participating in the school's "Grizzly Great Day of Giving," or "G3," an annual event in which students focus on coming together to participate in community service to improve the lives of the people around them. With Southern Style Treat the Troops coordinating efforts, Wintergreen's warehouse buzzed with activity as the care packages were assembled.

"Our military personnel stationed abroad sacrifice so much for all the rest of us," said Chris Miller, Co-Owner of Wintergreen Corp. "They're forced to live great distances from their families and friends and go without many things we take for granted. We greatly appreciate the sacrifice these men and women make on our behalf, and we're proud to participate with Treat the Troops and Piney Grove Middle School to create these care packages and send them to our soldiers around the world."

Wintergreen Corp. began working with Treat the Troops in 2013. The company plans to continue its support and encourages other local businesses to get involved. Volunteers are always needed to help with baking, packing, as well as monetary donations.
